At Old Bexley, we value the part music plays in the children's education. Through music, the children learn to work with others and understand the value of practice and perseverance. The children can take part in regular concerts and performances.
Here is a list of the opportunities we offer:
KS2 choir meets on Wednesdays at 3.30pm-4.30pm in the KS2 Hall. Anyone is welcome to join.
KS1 choir is very popular with the Year 2 children and is held on a Tuesday after school from 3.30pm-4.15pm (choir will start after the October half term). The children in the choir love performing for KS1, and sometimes KS2, and they also join the KS2 choir for concerts.
The school orchestra (Years 4-6) meets once a week on a Wednesday from 2.15-3pm.
Guitar lessons are conducted each week by Ben Sturge (email@example.com or 07590 413 055). These are available to any child in KS2 and take place during the school day.
1:1 piano lessons are offered to KS2 pupils twice a week. Please contact Claire Usher (firstname.lastname@example.org or 07932 792329) for further details.
Djembe drumming lessons are offered to pupils in KS2 on a Tuesday lunchtime. Please contact Mr Dadson via the school office if you are interested.
Currently we offer lessons on violin, viola, flute, clarinet and some brass instruments. The lessons are taught in small groups by teachers from Bird College. Please contact Mrs Kibby at the school for further information.
There is a charge for musical instrument lessons, but no money is payable for choir or orchestra.
At Old Bexley we teach the children to appreciate the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Alongside our broad and balanced PE Curriculum, children have access to a variety of sports and after school clubs.
We employ Specialist PE Teachers, Coaches and Play Specialists to ensure children are achieving and gaining an understanding of the importance of team work and co-operation.
We also create links and good relationships with local Secondary schools and Community clubs providing additional opportunities to support children's growth in sport.
These cross curricular activities have a positive influence on academic achievement, self esteem and well being.
